Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Ferrous Processing & Trade in Taylor, MI is seeking a General Laborer to support scrap metal processing at our Taylor location. The role emphasizes safety, PPE usage, material handling, and basic labors using various tools and equipment.

Responsibilities include sorting materials, operating forklifts and other mobile equipment, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting mechanics. Pre-employment screening is required; competitive pay and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Experience operating mobile equipment preferred.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to follow oral and written communication.
• Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach objects.
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
• Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
• Must be able to work in an environment with dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme climate and weather changes.
• Pre-Employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to safety standards including PPE, remove hazards and maintain cleanliness.
• Load and unload materials from storage, production areas, docks, vehicles, and containers.
• Sort recycled materials and metals to separate high-grade metals and remove non-conforming metals.
• Operate and maintain mobile equipment including forklifts, skid steers, street sweeper, and water trucks.
• Perform tasks involving physical labor using tools such as hand tools, torch, bander, chop saw, alligator shear, sawzall, and wire snips.
• Identify scrap including grade and type of material and any undesirable elements.
• Remove fluids from incoming materials or vehicles as required.
• Perform cleaning duties related to plant equipment and housekeeping.
• Assist mechanics in maintenance of equipment and plant equipment.
• Interact with customers or drivers to direct or assist them.
• Perform other general laborer tasks as required.
