Job description

Boston Metal is developing innovative technology to reduce the environmental impact of primary metals production while improving quality and reducing costs. This startup is expanding its operations team to operate Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) cells for molten metal production.

The Metal Production Operator, as part of the Operations Team, conducts 24/7 operations across three shifts. Responsibilities include monitoring MOE cells, sampling molten metal and slag, and supporting tapping and feeding processes. Additional duties may involve cell rebuilding and commissioning, which require operating heavy tools such as jackhammers and handling refractory materials (similar to concrete bags, over 50 lbs) during mixing and casting.

Requirements

Desired Experience and Skills:

• Experience or training in fabrication/assembly, with proficiency in at least two of the following skills:
• Hot work, including welding or torch cutting and heating
• Foundry or high-temperature work (>900°F), including handling hot materials
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs

Work Schedule:

The position follows a "6-4" shift pattern:

• 1st Shift: 7:00 am - 5:00 pm (10 hours)
• 2nd Shift: 3:00 pm - 1:00 am (10 hours)
• 3rd Shift: 12:00 am - 8:00 am (8 hours)

Employees work six consecutive days followed by four days off. Shift rotations occur after each four-day off period, moving to the next shift in sequence. A shift differential of 15% applies for 2nd shift and 25% for 3rd shift above the base hourly rate. Training will be provided.

Physical Demands

• Must wear PPE as required, including respirators, gloves, safety shoes, head protection, and protective clothing.
• Regularly use hands for handling, reaching, and communicating.
• Frequently stand, walk, and sit; occasionally stoop or crouch.
• Occasionally lift/move up to 55 lbs.
• Required vision abilities include close, distance, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, waste, and moving equipment, mitigated by safety policies. Noise levels are typically moderate.
