  • Blend weld seams, remove scuff marks, and eliminate surface defects using polishing tools.
  • Select and utilize abrasives, flap wheels, sanding belts, and polishing wheels for varying materials.
  • Inspect pieces visually and tactilely to ensure uniform texture and quality.
  • Safely maneuver and work around large pressure vessels and equipment.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, instructions, and finish specifications.
  • Maintain polishing equipment and a clean, safe workspace.
  • Follow PPE guidelines and safety protocols.

ROSS Engineering, Inc in Savannah, GA, a leader in industrial mixing and blending equipment, is seeking a Metal Polisher / Finisher to join our team.

Job Summary

The Metal Polisher / Finisher is responsible for achieving specified high-quality surface finishes on fabricated stainless steel and alloy equipment. This includes hand polishing standalone mixer parts as well as blending weld seams and removing scuff marks on pressure vessels. This role requires exceptional attention to detail to ensure our equipment meets strict functional, aesthetic, and sanitary quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Polish, grind, buff, and blend surfaces of standalone mixer components and pressure vessels to required finish specifications (e.g., sanitary, mirror, or brushed finishes).
  • Blend weld seams, remove scuff marks, and eliminate surface defects using hand-held pneumatic, electric, and manual polishing tools.
  • Select and utilize appropriate abrasives, flap wheels, sanding belts, compounds, and polishing wheels for varying material types and finish requirements.
  • Inspect work pieces visually and tactilely throughout the finishing process to ensure uniform texture, dimensional accuracy, and quality standards.
  • Safely maneuver, position, and work in and around large pressure vessels and standalone equipment.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, work instructions, and finish specifications.
  • Maintain polishing equipment, hand tools, and a clean, organized, safe work environment.
  • Follow all workplace safety protocols, including strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience polishing pressure vessels or sanitary industrial processing equipment (e.g., food, chemical, or pharmaceutical grade finishes).
  • Knowledge of specific surface finish measuring tools (e.g., Ra surface roughness testers).
  • Experience with rigging or operating overhead cranes to safely handle heavy vessel parts.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working inside, around, or on top of large pressure vessels and tanks.
  • Exposure to shop environment (noise, metal dust, and grinding debris; proper PPE required).
