Overview

The Metal Mechanic II will fabricate, build, and install various types of metal structures and equipment for facility maintenance and installation programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Select appropriate material for each job based on the desired or necessary strength.
• Cut, bend, and shape sheet metal to required dimensions.
• Measure and cut according to field measures need.
• Connect pieces or secure seams by riveting, rolling, or using steel screws.
• Use appropriate machinery to complete assigned jobs.
• Coordinate required shutdowns and startups of equipment with other departments after sheet metal installation.
• Maintain a clean and orderly workspace.
• Maintain punctual attendance and willingness to work overtime.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an apprenticeship or a three-year, in‑company training program.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged periods of lifting, reaching, and working on scaffolding and overhead structures.
• Must be able to lift more than 50 pounds frequently.
• Must have the ability to lift your whole bodyweight while climbing.
• Must be able to stand, bend, kneel often and walk for long periods.
• Must be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations, as well as dusty/noisy work environment.
