What does the job involve?

Summary: Setting up and fitting detailed parts on aircraft and aerospace assemblies. Performing hand grinding, expanding, and fitting to blueprint specifications for heliarc tacking, welding, or resistance welding.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Aligning machined details or stampings prior to welding.
  • Trimming, scribes, filing, or grinding parts to templates or scribed lines.
  • Setting up jobs in assembly jigs for welding.
  • Assisting higher-level workers as needed.
  • Performing rework and repairs related to the described work.
  • Maintaining a minimum output of 65%.
  • Ensuring product quality acceptance of at least 90%.
  • Following all company policies and procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or 3-6 months of related training, or equivalent experience.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and understand instructions, memos, blueprints, and knowledge of metal forming characteristics and heat reactions.
  • Reasoning: Ability to understand and execute detailed instructions and solve problems with concrete variables.
  • Mathematics: Ability to perform basic math operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with various units of measure.
  • Other: Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Qualifications:

  • Tacking Certificate.

Tools used:

  • Metal expander, hand or pedestal grinder, band saw.

Materials used:

  • Emery cloth, clamps, cleaning solvent, welding gases, various metals and alloys, machined and formed parts.
