Job summary

Wolverine Packing Company is seeking a Metal Fabricator to perform welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance on production equipment and facility structures within a food-processing environment. You will work closely with the Maintenance Department to keep systems safe, reliable, and operational.

The ideal candidate has strong welding skills, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to troubleshoot industrial equipment in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial welding or fabrication experience.
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding.
  • Experience welding stainless steel is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read basic blueprints, drawings, and measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other metals as required.
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify equipment, machinery, frames, platforms, guards, brackets, supports, and other components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, measurements, and work instructions.
  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure proper quality, strength, and fit.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on production equipment and facility structures.

Job description

The Metal Fabricator is responsible for performing welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance work on production equipment, machinery, structural components, piping, platforms, guards, conveyors, and other facility systems. This position works closely with the Maintenance Department to ensure equipment and facilities remain safe, reliable, and operational.

The ideal candidate has strong welding and fabrication skills, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and repair industrial equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other metals as required.
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify equipment, machinery, frames, platforms, guards, brackets, supports, and other components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, measurements, and work instructions.
  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated components to ensure proper quality, strength, and fit.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on production equipment and facility structures.
  • Repair and modify conveyors, processing equipment, chutes, tables, racks, and other production-related equipment.
  • Cut, grind, drill, bend, and shape metal using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Use torches, plasma cutters, grinders, welding machines, and other fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and identify welding or fabrication solutions to minimize production downtime.
  • Work with the Maintenance Team to complete emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and welding safety practices.
  • Follow food-safety and sanitation requirements applicable to a food-processing environment.
  • Properly protect food products, equipment, and surrounding areas from sparks, debris, and contamination during welding and fabrication work.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and supplies in good working condition.
  • Complete maintenance documentation and communicate completed work and equipment issues to management.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial welding or fabrication experience
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding.
  • Experience welding stainless steel is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read basic blueprints, drawings, and measurements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use welding, fabrication, and mechanical hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a maintenance team.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, food-processing, or industrial environment preferred.
  • Welding certification is preferred but not required.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, climb, reach, and work in awkward positions.
  • Ability to work from ladders, lifts, platforms, and elevated work areas when required.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, and noisy industrial environments.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding hood, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and other required equipment.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery and industrial equipment while following all applicable safety procedures.

This position works primarily in an industrial food-processing and manufacturing environment. The employee may be exposed to moving machinery, welding fumes, sparks, noise, water, cleaning chemicals, temperature changes, and other typical manufacturing conditions.
