The Metal Decorating Press Operator operates the 8-10 color aluminum can decorator and related equipment to support the test printing of can designs for our global customers.
• Responsible for setup and operation of aluminum can Decorating Machine and conveyor equipment.
• Monitor ink feeding and printing processes to maintain print quality, detect malfunctions and plan for and take immediate corrective action.
• Make changeovers or conversions by setting up equipment for change in material and product.
• Load cans during print trials.
• Check, test and measure product for quality specifications, inspect for visual defects and report quality and production issues to supervisor.
• Use color instrumentation to read densities and values.
• Press maintenance and organization.
• Press cleanup (inks and plates).
• Direct press assistant to achieve production schedule.
• Cross-train on all workstations within department.
• Maintain inventory of inks, aluminum cans, spare parts and other items as needed.
• Assist in the development of and comply with safety SOP’s and work instructions, including Lockout/Tagout, chemical handling, machine guarding, PPE, etc.
• Additional duties as assigned.
• Associate’s Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.
• 2+ years of previous printing, machine operating experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot printing press issues.
• Familiar with proper handling of chemicals/solvents.
• Basic degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
• Basic analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
• Basic verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
• Basic understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
• Possess a mechanical aptitude; ability to use a large variety of hand tools and basic knowledge of power tools, forklifts, welding equipment, and cutting torch.
• Occasional travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
• Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability adjust focus.
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment may be high.
