Job summary

Voya Energy is pioneering a metal-air fuel cell technology in Hayward, CA, seeking an interdisciplinary R&D engineer to develop and scale electrocatalysts for our proprietary metal-air fuel cells. The role emphasizes rapid invention and validation of new chemistries, with hands-on work on anodes/cathodes and corrosion studies.

You will collaborate with engineering and production to move electrolytes from lab to pilot and production-ready systems in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Proven ability to invent and advance novel chemistries from concept to validation, preferably in energy storage/generation applications.
• Experience with development of anodes/cathodes for electrochemical systems (fuel cells, batteries, electrolyzers).
• Experience with metals corrosion chemistry is a plus.
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
• Results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency.

Responsibilities

• Develop improved metal alloys to improve the power and minimize corrosion for Voya’s metal-air fuel cells.
• Identify structure-property relationships and translate to improved anode chemistry designs.
• Design analytical tests and methods to identify mechanisms to feed understanding back into the anode experimental designs.
• Work with Voya’s engineering and production teams to scale and demonstrate new electrolytes from lab to pilot and production-intent systems.
