Job summary

Freeform seeks a Process Engineer to develop novel metal additive manufacturing processes. You’ll work with mechanical, software, and simulations engineers to analyze large data sets and post-build material characteristics, iterating on printing technology with machine learning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, or similar (ABET-accredited).
• First principles thinker with strong physics fundamentals.
• Experience with experimental design and statistical data analysis.
• Strong data analysis skills and ability to interpret large datasets.
• Experience with Python and/or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Analyze massive in situ data sets to understand physical mechanisms of the printing process.
• Assist in experiments, analyze data, and develop/optimize metal additive processes.
• Perform post-build metrology and analyze material properties (tensile strength, roughness, microstructure).
• Generate and track quality metrics for printed parts (dimensional accuracy, defects).
• Assist in tool qualification procedures.
• Collaborate with mechanical, software, and simulations engineers to improve printing processes.
