Job summary

MCPL seeks a lead cataloger to manage the Library’s cataloging and metadata standards, ensuring accurate MARC records within the ILS. You will coordinate digitization projects, approve metadata architectures, and mentor staff in cataloging rules and standards.

The role emphasizes national and local standards, continuous improvement of cataloging practices, and collaboration across departments. Requires MLS and IPL Level 3 eligibility or certification.

Qualifications

• MLS from an ALA-accredited college or university.
• Three years of general library experience preferred.
• Indiana Public Library Certification – Level 3; IPL certification eligibility may be considered.
• Experience with library cataloging rules; familiarity with MARC/OCLC.
• Strong computer aptitude and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Catalog newly acquired physical and digital items and enter bibliographic records into the ILS.
• Recommend controlled vocabulary and create/verify metadata.
• Ensure cataloging aligns with national and local standards and rules.
• Enter original cataloging into national databases and assign subject headings.
