Job summary

The University of Alabama Libraries is hiring a Metadata Analytics Librarian at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank to lead metadata creation, management, and remediation across library platforms including FOLIO and the discovery layer.

The successful candidate will collaborate with library faculty and staff to develop workflows, support discovery and preservation, and contribute to scholarly research in a tenure-track framework. Strong communication and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• MLS in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or a doctoral degree in a quantitative field.
• Experience creating, cataloging, and managing metadata in academic libraries or archives.
• Expertise with MARC21, RDA, LC headings and authority files; familiarity with Dublin Core, MODS.
• Experience using OCLC Connexion and major ILS platforms; metadata quality control & remediation.
• Knowledge of archival standards (DACS, EAD, MPLP) and metadata workflows; strong communication.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to evolving standards; tenure-track readiness.

Responsibilities

• Lead metadata workflows, testing, data migration, and long-term metadata strategies for library platforms.
• Collaborate across units to support discovery, access, preservation, and bibliographic control.
• Contribute to grant proposals and professional development aligned with tenure‑track expectations.
