Job summary

CHOC Children's Specialists seeks a full-time physician to join the Division of Metabolic Disorders in Orange County. You will diagnose and treat pediatric patients with suspected or confirmed rare diseases and provide comprehensive, family-centered care.

Qualifications

Position Overview

CHOC Children's Specialists is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) physician to join the Division of Metabolic Disorders. The physician will diagnose, treat, and provide comprehensive care to pediatric patients with suspected or confirmed rare disease.

This position offers the opportunity to lead complex diagnostic evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, genetic counselors, and other allied health professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic work-ups for pediatric patients with suspected rare disease.
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans that incorporate specialized consultative services.
  • Assess patient and family psychosocial needs and coordinate appropriate support.
  • Review laboratory results, communicate findings, and respond to patient and physician questions in a timely manner.
  • Provide inpatient consultative care and manage admissions at contracted service locations while assigned to the inpatient service.
  • Supervise nurse practitioners, genetic counselors, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and other team members as assigned by the Division Chief.
  • Support division growth through program development, education, and approved clinical research activities.
Academic and Research Opportunities
  • Participate in medical student and residency education, including supervision during electives and inpatient service.
  • Deliver resident teaching conferences and contribute to division educational materials and community teaching programs.
  • Maintain an academic appointment and affiliation with the UCI Pediatric Program when appropriately credentialed.
  • Initiate and participate in clinical research and publish original and review manuscripts in the medical and scientific literature.

Salary Range

$220,000 - $300,000

Compensation is determined by multiple factors, including experience, education, skills, internal equity, and position requirements.
