Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Systems Administrator – Messaging in Atlanta, GA. You will support and administer Exchange Server, Exchange Online, and Proofpoint, balancing operations with strong automation efforts.

A core focus is writing PowerShell, Microsoft Graph API, and REST API-driven solutions to reduce manual work, with on‑call rotation and collaboration with senior team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Strong PowerShell or scripting language with solid fundamentals (functions, logic, error handling).
• Familiarity with Git and version control concepts.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and enterprise email concepts.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and methodical problem-solving approach.
• Ability to learn new platforms quickly and work with senior team members.
• Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non‑technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Tier 3 support for messaging incidents, guiding senior team members on complex issues.
• Patch management, maintenance, and upgrades across on‑premises, hybrid, and cloud platforms.
• Write and maintain PowerShell scripts, automate mailbox/user lifecycles, and generate reports.
• Document runbooks, known-issues, configurations, and support procedures.
