Job summary

Mercy Washington Winter Externship is a paid, hands-on learning experience for nursing students. You will work approximately 36 hours per week, rotating through a variety of units under the guidance of Mercy nurses at Washington, MO.

Dates are December 14 through January 8, with potential flexibility to December 21–January 15 if needed. Opportunity to convert to a PRN Nurse Technician after the externship, if applicable.

Qualifications

• Must have completed Fundamentals of Nursing and at least one clinical rotation prior to start.
• Externship is paid and runs during winter break.
• Exhibits nursing skills in an acute care setting under direction of an RN.

Responsibilities

• Assists in individualized patient care to support wellness.
• Performs designated clinical procedures and nonclinical support tasks within the nurse extern scope.

Our Mercy Nursing Externship is a unique hands‑on learning experience designed to help nursing students bridge the gap between the classroom and real‑world practice. This paid externship gives you the opportunity to work approximately 36 hours per week, rotating through a variety of units while learning directly at the elbow of a Mercy nurse. At the conclusion of the Externship, you may have the opportunity to convert to a PRN Nurse Technician position.

Externship Requirement:

Applicants must have completed Fundamentals of Nursing and a minimum of one round of clinicals, by the start of the externship.
