About This Career Opportunity

A Resident Assistant / Caregiver:

  • Provides personal care and services to residents with dementia in accordance with resident needs, individual service plans and the philosophy of supportive and resident centered care.
  • Helps residents with activities of daily living including personal care, bathing, grooming, dressing, bathroom assistance, light housekeeping, and group and individual activities.
  • Provides meal and activity escort assistance - walking, wheelchair or walker.
  • Documents care through electronic charting.
  • Communicates with and responds to residents about their needs.
This job requires:
  • Lifting / pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs. and 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Work on weekends and holidays, based on scheduling.
Overview

The Resident Assistant (RA) caregiver provides an array of services including, but not limited to, personal care, light housekeeping, dining services and group and individual activities. The Caregiver provides personal care and services to residents in accordance with resident needs, individual service plans and the philosophy of supportive and resident centered care.

Responsibilities
ECA Core Competencies
  • Consistently exhibits core competencies of: ECA Experience, Personal Appearance, Attendance, Resident Confidentiality, Licensing & Standards, In-service Education, Resident Compassion, and Safety.
Resident Knowledge & Support
  • Maintains current knowledge of each resident's basic needs and special care plan regarding diet, fluid restrictions, hydration, hearing devices, glasses, dentures, behavior, etc.
  • Encourages resident independence in various activities of daily living or socialization to promote activity of both mind and body.
  • Performs group and individual activities with residents each shift.
  • Escorts residents to and from appointments and activities as needed.
  • Participates in care conferences as needed.
Resident Care
  • Assists residents with hair care, oral hygiene, skin care, general grooming, toileting, and mobility in a caring and compassionate manner.
  • Monitors nourishment, assists with providing meals, meal set-up and between-meal snacks.
  • Observes residents for any change in physical or behavioral condition and reports this immediately to Supervisor.
  • Effectively uses computerized system to communicate resident status and to document services provided.
Resident Living Maintenance
  • Maintains and assures that resident living area and furnishings are clean and orderly, by making and/or changing beds, tidying apartment clean and removing laundry for washing.
  • Reports any equipment or supply needs to the Resident Care Director.
  • Practices care and conservation of equipment and supplies to minimize waste.
  • Documents any personal supplies used for resident care.
Resident Safety
  • Demonstrates an understanding of safety procedures and precautions regarding the resident or when using equipment or vehicles.
  • Reports all incidents, accidents, unsafe or hazardous conditions to appropriate personnel.
  • Uses proper techniques and equipment for heavy lifting.
  • Responds as directed to emergency situations.
  • Understands and follows safety and security protocols throughout the Community.
Meal Service
  • Serves meals to residents in the main dining room as needed, assists with tray service and clean up.
Community Standard Responsiveness
  • Responds timely and appropriately to resident emergencies, following Community standards and protocols.
Qualifications
Position Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Cleared Criminal Record clearance through the Department of Social Services prior to presence in the community.
  • Health screening and TB test results not older than 6 months.
  • Current First Aid Training and Certifications as per Title 22.
  • 6 months or more in long term care, home care or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with seniors or be a current CNA, preferably in a long term care environment.
Here’s what you need
  • Passion, sensitivity and knowledge of working with older adults, the aging process and dementia care are essential.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with seniors or be a current CNA, preferably in a long term care environment.
  • Working knowledge of computers and typing, sufficient enough to be successful with computerized Point of Care and other systems.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Effective English verbal and written communication skills with the ability to successfully work in a multi-cultural environment.
