Mercy Springfield invites nursing students to join the Nurse Extern program for Spring 2027. You will work under an RN, supporting patient care and performing limited clinical procedures within the extern scope.

Enrollment in an approved RN or PN program is required, with transcripts and one letter of recommendation submitted for consideration. A contract will bind you to Mercy facilities for 1–3 years post‑graduation, and minimum 16 hours per pay period will be worked.

Job description

Find your calling at Mercy! As a student in an approved registered nurse or practical nurse school of nursing, the Nurse Extern student participates in clinical work under the direction of an RN. This program is designed to provide students with opportunities to grow professionally, receive financial assistance, and experience a smoother transition into practice post‑graduation.

You may be enrolled in healthcare prerequisites or the Paramedic program itself to qualify. Previous transcripts and one letter of recommendation will be required to be considered.

Please Note

• You will be required to work at least 16 hours per pay period (every two weeks).
• Employment positions may vary by program needs.
• A contract will need to be signed stating you will remain at the Mercy facility of your choice for 1–3 years post‑graduation.
