Kurv is seeking a Merchant Underwriter I in Cleveland to review merchant applications and apply risk-based decisions. You will analyze exposure data, interpret vendor reports, and communicate results to internal teams and sales staff.

The primary focus of the Merchant Underwriter I is to review, analyze, and make sound decisions and recommendations on merchant applications. The ideal candidate is experienced in underwriting within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

The successful candidate will also have the ability to understand and apply best practices guidelines; collect and analyze exposure and loss data; respond efficiently and effectively to internal and external requests; maintain all organizational and professional ethical standards; have the ability to spot trends in monitoring and reporting; and communicate results of analysis to business customers and senior management, all while actively advocating and monitoring compliance.

Responsibilities to Include

• Analyze a mix of merchant applicants in a wide variety of business types in both card-present and card-not-present processing environments.
• Underwrite based on the risk associated with transaction volume and business type, applying standard documentation and future service liability guidelines accordingly.
• Ability to rapidly interpret and analyze vendor reports and apply findings to underwriting decisions.
• Communicate effectively with merchants and sales representatives.
• Communicate effectively with internal company departments, as well as management, as necessary.
• Ability to recognize fraud patterns and emerging trends across merchant submissions.

Job Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience in an underwriting environment.
• Typing 50+ WPM or equivalent keystrokes.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret data based on established criteria.
• Proficient in reviewing and interpreting both consumer and business credit reports.
• Must be a team-oriented individual with a willingness to work all levels of applicants (not exclusively high-level applicants) with a positive attitude.
• Flexibility required to work extended shifts as needed.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Business or Finance preferred (or equivalent work experience).
