Job Summary

A Host, or Cashier, is responsible for welcoming customers to a food service environment and ensuring that they are seated and receive attentive service. Their duties include maintaining a waitlist of patrons during busy meal service, passing out menus and accepting phone calls.

Responsibilities

  1. Welcoming guests to the venue
  2. Greeting guests as they enter and putting them on a waiting list as necessary.
  3. Providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions.
  4. Seating guests at tables or in waiting areas.
  5. Assigning guests to tables they prefer, while keeping table rotation in mind so that servers receive the right number of customers.
  6. Engaging with guests to ensure they're happy with food and service.
  7. Responding to complaints and helping to resolve them
  8. Managing transactions with customers using cash registers
  9. Collecting payments whether in cash or credit

Qualifications

Must be 16 years old and meet any other state age or labor requirements. No one under the age of 18 may operate, clean, adjust or touch a slicer or mixer.

Nature and Scope of Position

Demonstrates a passion to serve by being attentive to guest needs at all times. Ensure tables are clean, set, and ready at all times.

Essential Functions

  1. Accurately handle guest payment for meals, whole pies, and retail.
  2. Exhibits integrity in all actions by ensuring the cash drawer balances at the end of the shift.
  3. Consistently answer the telephone identifying self and restaurant, speaks clearly and in sincere manner. Take to-go orders, message and transfer calls to the appropriate parties.
  4. Promptly handles guest complaints using the Service Recovery Steps. Notifies manager in a timely manner so that the complaint can be handled prior to the guest departure.
  5. Keep dining room and front lobby clean, including floors, windows, and seats in waiting area.
  6. Clean and stock host service area, including menus, pie boxes, pie display case, etc.
  7. Complete opening and/or closing duties.
  8. Assist servers and bussers as requested.
  9. Enthusiastically acknowledge guest with the company’s five-foot rule.
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Not required.

Education and Experience

Successful completion of required training program, including watching videos, completing on-the-job checklists and written quizzes.

Skills and Knowledge

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  1. Must be able to follow menu specifications and recipes, read ticket and maintain an organized and sanitary work area.
  2. Must be able to follow directions, work in a fast-paced, high-pressure customer-responsive environment
  3. Must be able to work in a team environment and communicate with co-workers and management.
  4. Uses sound judgement in day-to-day decisions by applying the company’s vision, values and cultures.
