Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking an energetic team member to support inventory flow in our retail setting, sorting, processing, and preparing donated merchandise for display.

You will work with staff to maintain pricing, stocking, safety, and customer service while meeting productivity quotas in a fast-paced environment.

This role emphasizes reliability, teamwork, and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Transfers merchandise from containers to determine appropriateness for the sales floor per guidelines.
• Sorts apparel into boutique, salable, and salvage categories; places items on hangers and racks.
• Counts items processed and records on daily logs; maintains product organization on the floor.
• Assists in collection and stocking of donated merchandise and provides donor/customer service.
• Maintains safety practices and meets productivity quotas while ensuring a clean appearance.

Partner with retail team members in a high-energy, fast-paced environment to perform a variety of critical inventory management responsibilities. You’ll sort, process, and prepare donated merchandise for display and sale in your own retail store. Our shoppers will love you!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Transfers merchandise from containers to determine appropriateness for the sales floor in accordance with established guidelines.
• Stays abreast of brand name, designer labels, current and vintage styles.
• Prepare items for the sales floor. Evaluate items to determine quality, pricing, value and salability.
• Counts number of items processed and records on official log.
• Sorts apparel into boutique, salable, and salvage categories according to quota.
• Places items on hangers, places hangers on rolling rack, and transports them to the sales floor keeping similar items grouped.
• Counts pieces of clothing and records on Daily Hanger Report.
• Places non-sellable merchandise in the appropriate container.
• Follows good safety and security practices including reporting safety hazards and injuries to the manager on duty.
• Maintains a pace at which one is able to meet required productivity goals (quotas) for pieces processed.
• Maintains a clean, neat uniform and appearance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Assists in the collection and stocking of donated merchandise.
• Provides excellent service to Goodwill’s donors and retail customers.
• Performs other duties as directed.

Required Qualifications

• Ability to perform basic math.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend basic instruction.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally with associates and customers.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling and climbing for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours - per 8 hour shift).
• Ability to lift max of 25 lbs pounds frequently.

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of six months of previous work experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working in a warehouse environment.
• Previous experience working with merchandise pricing.
• Basic computer skills.
• Multilingual with proficiency in English.
