Reporting to the Senior Manager of Merchandise Planning, the Merchandise Planner owns demand forecasting and inventory management across multiple sales channels and product categories. You will build and maintain SKU-level forecasts, analyze product performance (sales, margins, sell-through, turns), and translate data-driven insights into clear recommendations that inform assortment planning, OTB, replenishment, promotions, and markdown strategy. This role is highly cross-functional — you'll collaborate closely with Sales, Finance, Marketing, and Product leadership, and be expected to communicate findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels including executive leadership.
You will be Responsible for
- Build and maintain demand and inventory forecasts across multiple sales channels and product categories; own the open-to-buy (OTB) process from seasonal plan through in-season management
- Develop and maintain SKU level forecasts to support replenishment and seasonal buys
- Analyze product performance (sales comp, sales mix, margin, IMU, sell through, sales to stock, productivity) to inform weekly, monthly business reviews and seasonal hindsight
- Analyze demand patterns by channel and margin scenarios to inform sales forecasting, inventory replenishment and buys, promotions and mark-down decisions
- Partner with Sales and Finance team to align inventory plans to sales goals and business needs
- Partner with the Sourcing and Logistics teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of purchase orders (receipts tracking)
- Product hierarchy: maintain line-sheets and accurate product data, including product hierarchy, attribution, pricing, and purchase order information, to support item set-up, forecasting and reporting integrity
- Leverage BI tools (Aleph, Looker, Tableau) and AI-assisted forecasting to analyze large datasets and surface insights and streamline reporting workflows
- Translate data into clear insights and recommendations for cross-functional teams
- Present analysis and recommendations to stakeholders, including senior leadership
- Continuously improve forecasting models and planning processes; evaluate and adopt AI tools that enhance accuracy and efficiency
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, supply chain management
- Minimum 4 years of experience in planning (inventory, merchandise, financial) in multi-channel retail
- Proficiency with retail math and foundational retail analytics
- Highly analytical with strong command of forecasting methodologies including experience owning open-to-buys, SKU level forecasting models
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, IF formulas)
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, particularly in data accuracy
- Experience with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Domo, Aleph, or similar)
- Familiarity with ERP or planning systems (e.g., NetSuite); experience with DTC and wholesale channels a plus
- Strong communicator who can distill complex analyses into clear narratives for cross-functional and executive audiences
