Job Summary
The Merchandise Manager owns and manages the relationship between Orgill and the vendor. The MM controls the breadth of the assortment and determines what Orgill will offer our customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Negotiate with the vendor community: marketing support, payment and freight terms, pricing, assortment, promotions, and other matters pertinent to the Orgill vendor relationship.
- Conduct vendor line and assortment reviews per assigned department(s) using Strategic Category Analysis (SCA) tools.
- Sell booth space and prepare order forms for buying events.
- Attend dealer markets and coordinate activity for assigned merchandise.
- Respond to questions and requests for information from dealers, sales representatives, and vendors.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Success Factors: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of and ability in using various software applications, particularly Microsoft Office products and the Google Platform.
- Experience with an automated buying system is a plus.
- Polished negotiation techniques.
- Excellent analytical abilities with ability to review facts and weight options when solving problems and making decisions.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with good listening skills.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, proceed with objectives with little or no supervision, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to deal with a variety of changing situations under stress.
- Ability to organize materials, manage time, and prioritize tasks.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree encouraged in a business‑related area. Substantial experience (10+ years) in a similar field can serve as an alternative to a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Three to five years’ experience preferred in a same or similar field.
- Retail experience in hardware or similar retail setting encouraged.
- Must be willing to travel to Company Dealer Markets as well as infrequent training opportunities where they present themselves – requirements may vary.
- Regular, on‑site, in person attendance required.
