General Summary & Scope

The Merchandise Manager (MM) is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values and contributing to a high-performing team that consistently delivers top-line sales growth for the store. The MM reports to the Operations Manager (OM). The MM guides a team of Task Associates and is accountable for supporting the operations of a retail store, including, but not limited to, shipment process, replenishment, omni-channel, price changes, and markdowns. This leader drives the store’s business through a focus on performance (sales, inventory results, and operational compliance), people (training and development), and process (standard operating procedures and compliance standards). This position requires a passion for operational excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to quickly and efficiently lead through unforeseen complexity.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The MM is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, demonstrating them consistently by performing duties such as:

Performance
  • Promoting a culture of accountability to meet or exceed store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni-channel, and shrink.
  • Driving profitability through operational excellence, sales growth, and expense control.
  • Using store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling, maximizing productivity, and achieving sales and payroll goals.
  • Reviewing and reacting to financial and operational reports, store visit, and audit results.
  • Leveraging company programs and tools to improve store performance.
  • Performing makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demos to enhance guest experience and drive sales.
  • Staying informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Maintaining prompt attendance and holding staff accountable to attendance policies.
People
  • Attracting, hiring, and retaining diverse top talent.
  • Building an engaged team that embodies the brand through collaboration and communication.
  • Creating an inclusive environment that promotes growth and engagement.
  • Supporting professional development through training, coaching, and succession planning.
  • Participating in ongoing training to enhance skills and sales performance.

  • Protecting assets and minimizing loss through adherence to standards.
  • Managing inventory control processes and theft reporting.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and communicating business insights to leadership.
Job Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
Experience
  • 1-2+ years in retail management or relevant experience.
  • Experience with financial management, sales driving, and operational excellence.
  • Leadership experience in attracting, developing, and motivating teams.
Skills
  • Proficiency with technology (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability.
Special Position Requirements
  • Flexible full-time schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and early shifts.
Working Conditions
  • Continuous mobility within the store.
  • Frequent physical activity including lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Use of computers, phones, and office supplies.
