With offices in both Washington D.C. & Baltimore, MD, this firm specializes in sustainable, community-driven commercial, educational, multi-family, and civic projects.

We are seeking a Mechanical Department Leader to join this firm as a functional leader and elevate the firms technical depth and fold into their culture of a close-knit (and growing) team. This is an impactful Associate Principal/Director level role focused on technical leadership, project execution, and team mentorship.

As the Mechanical Department Leader, you'll be key in setting technical direction, supporting project/client management, mentoring and developing staff, and cultivating a positive, inclusive culture.

CORE COMPETENCIES

Technical

  • Develop and maintain resources and standards for design, including specifications, control diagrams, calculations, schedules, etc.
  • Direct, oversee, and review technical team effort by utilizing multifaceted skills to manage and complete the technical aspects of projects of varying scale
  • Discuss, evaluate, and share ideas with senior staff to solve complicated and challenging engineering problems
  • Develop solutions to challenging MEP issues with integrated A/E project design teams

Leadership

  • Work to understand individual team member strengths, weaknesses, motivations, and goals, and utilize each effectively to create a cohesive team
  • Establish and maintain a healthy and effective team dynamic through trust
  • Manage staff assignments considering availability, strengths, and performance goals

Quality and Organizational Management

  • Develop and continually improve internal QA/QC processes and procedures
  • Provide QA/QC review of project drawings and specifications for coordination issues, constructability, budgetary compliance, and code compliance
  • Act as the final stamp of approval for technical documentation for projects

Project/Client Management

  • Develop processes for efficient design and project management
  • Attend and prepare for meetings as MEP expert for early phase deliverables and large, complex projects
  • Coach and support team members in technical design and project and client management efforts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of services in MEP design and management
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and other relevant discipline-specific software
