Job summary

Belcan Corporation is seeking an MEP Engineer to lead and support plumbing and mechanical projects in existing commercial and institutional buildings in Tukwila, WA. Focus on plumbing with some HVAC evaluation; strong technical knowledge and project management are essential, plus effective client and team communication.

The role is 100% onsite, full-time contract (6 months) with potential for direct hire. ABET‑accredited degree in engineering and relevant licensure are required, with experience

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • EIT/FE certification or WA PE license required.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience with building plumbing systems, construction, and renovation projects.
  • Working knowledge of Washington State/local building and plumbing codes.
  • Basic project management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience preparing technical reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist with plumbing and mechanical engineering projects for existing building construction and renovation.
  • Perform building condition assessments and evaluate existing plumbing and mechanical systems.
  • Design replacement domestic water, sanitary sewer, and mechanical piping systems.
  • Size and specify piping, pumps, boilers, and related systems.
  • Analyze HVAC systems from forensic and verification perspectives.
  • Conduct code compliance reviews per WA/state/local codes.
  • Conduct field inspections and provide project status updates.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets.
  • Direct plumbers and technicians on field sampling and lab testing procedures.
  • Document field and laboratory processes and interpret results.
  • Present project updates and findings to clients.
  • Review and modify engineering drawings with in-house designer/drafter.

Job Title: (MEP) Engineer

Pay rate: $55 - $65/hour DOE

Location: Tukwila, WA

Schedule: Full‑time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Work Environment: 100% Onsite

Employment Type: Contract (6 months) with potential for direct hire

Start Date: Right Away

We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a pay range of $55 - $65/hr. However, Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline. Position Summary

We are seeking a (MEP) Engineer to support and lead projects involving plumbing and mechanical systems in existing commercial and institutional buildings. This role focuses primarily on plumbing systems, with some HVAC evaluation responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, project management experience, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead or assist with plumbing and mechanical engineering projects for existing building construction and renovation.
  • Perform building condition assessments and evaluate existing plumbing and mechanical systems.
  • Design replacement domestic water, sanitary sewer, and mechanical piping systems.
  • Size and specify: Hot and cold water piping, pumps, boilers, hot water recirculation systems, venting systems, sanitary sewer piping.
  • Analyze HVAC systems from a forensic and verification perspective.
  • Perform code compliance reviews for existing and proposed systems in accordance with Washington State and local building and plumbing codes.
  • Conduct field inspections and provide project status updates to management.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets.
  • Direct plumbers and technicians on sample collection procedures for laboratory testing.
  • Document field and laboratory processes.
  • Interpret laboratory results and prepare detailed technical reports for clients.
  • Present project updates and findings to clients.
  • Review, edit, and modify engineering drawings with support from the in‑house designer/drafter.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT/FE) certification or Washington State Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with building plumbing systems, construction, and renovation projects.
  • Working knowledge of Washington State and local building and plumbing codes.
  • Basic project management experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience preparing technical reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using AutoCAD.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with HVAC systems.
  • Hands‑on construction or plumbing experience, either professionally or through personal projects (DIY).
  • Field inspection and forensic engineering experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions due to federal firearms licensing (FFL) requirements.
