Job Overview:

The Menu Technician corrects menus in accordance with prescribed diets, maintains the updated Computrition Computerized Diet Office System, and demonstrates professional communication skills in the diet office. The role includes reporting safety issues such as hazardous environments (damaged floors, walls, ceiling tiles, unsecured areas) and medical errors.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Hospital experience in food services or nutritional care

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shifts vary (e.g., 5:30am-2:00pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, 11:00am-7:30pm)
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
  • Per Diem

Essential Functions:

  • Process patient meal tickets against diet and allergen information from the clinical information system, reviewing tray tickets for accuracy
  • Complete tally sheets for special food requests promptly and notify relevant staff
  • Coordinate communication within the diet office, answer phones, relay information, and process data from various office equipment, ensuring timely processing of exception messages
  • Verify allergens in patient information and alert tray line accordingly
  • Use Diet Office Management programs for menu data entry, meal processing, and report monitoring
  • Perform duties across three shifts, managing workflow and menu corrections per diet restrictions
  • Interact positively with patients and staff, ensuring dietary needs are met and compliance maintained
  • Provide care appropriate to patient age, including manual diet order corrections for restricted diets
  • Manually process menus during system downtimes, maintaining logs and ensuring timely meal delivery
  • Follow policies on device use, social media, HIPAA, and compliance
  • Maintain and manually update the electronic cardex system, including patient preferences and diet entries
  • Achieve a menu pick-up rate of at least 90%, utilizing workflow and patient calls
  • Assist in duties during supervisor absence, including troubleshooting and communication
  • Prepare menus and tray tickets accurately and timely, ensuring efficient meal service
  • Restock and organize office materials, ensure printer and report functionality, and maintain supply readiness
  • Maintain professional phone etiquette, assist with calls, and support department communication
