Job summary

YWCA of Metropolitan St. Louis seeks a dedicated educator to support and mentor new teachers, modeling best practices and guiding reflective teaching. You will plan developmentally appropriate activities fostering social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth while supporting parents in their child’s learning journey.

You will collaborate with a team to share classroom management strategies, assess child progress, and identify training needs to strengthen early childhood education programs.

Qualifications

• A working knowledge of early childhood development.
• Willing to obtain CDA.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to new or developing teachers.
• Share best practices for classroom management, lesson planning and positive child interactions.
• Communicate and model positive interactions with children and families while promoting parental involvement.
• Develop and implement developmentally appropriate activities daily based on each child's level.
• Help teachers/apprentice develop skills and professional goals.
• Identify training and development needs for teachers/apprentice.
• Conduct screenings and ongoing assessments of children's growth and development.

Purpose

Support and mentor new early childhood educators by modeling best practices, offering guidance, and encouraging reflective teaching. Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that foster children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth, while also serving as a supportive and knowledgeable resource for parents.

Description

• Provide guidance to new or developing teachers.

• Help teachers / apprentice develop skills and build confidence in their role and professional development goals.
• Help identify areas of training and development needed for teachers /apprentice.
• Conduct screenings and ongoing assessments of each child's growth and development. Use information to refer children with potential delays.

Requirements

Required Knowledge

• A working knowledge and understanding of early childhood development and education.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures for young children.

• The ability to communicate effectively with families and including them in their child's learning process.

Formal Education

A high school diploma/GED and willing to obtain a CDA.
