Position Description

The Mentor Program Specialist is responsible for developing, coordinating, and supporting Texans Together employee mentoring and onboarding initiatives to promote employee engagement, professional growth, and long-term retention. This position partners with leaders across programs to ensure newly hired employees receive structured guidance, coaching, and support as they transition into their roles. The Specialist recruits, trains, and supports mentors; monitors mentoring relationships; develops learning resources; evaluates program effectiveness; and collaborates with Human Resources, Learning & Development, and operational leadership to strengthen workforce capability and organizational culture. This role serves as a key contributor to employee development initiatives and supports Texans Together’s commitment to providing exceptional services to children, families, and communities. The Mentor Program Specialist coordinates and oversees the TTG mentoring program by recruiting, training, and supporting mentors while ensuring newly hired employees receive consistent coaching and professional development. The position collaborates with supervisors, program directors, and training staff to improve employee engagement, competency, and retention.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the TTG mentor program for newly hired staff.
  • Recruit, train, and support TTG mentors.
  • Match mentors with new employees based on program guidelines.
  • Monitor mentoring relationships and provide ongoing coaching to mentors.
  • Ensure mentoring activities align with TTG policies and competency requirements.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, Program Directors, and training staff to support employee development.
  • Track participant progress and maintain mentoring documentation.
  • Evaluate mentoring outcomes and recommend program improvements.
  • Assist with orientation and onboarding activities for new staff.
  • Develop and deliver mentor training sessions and resource materials.
  • Address issues affecting mentor/protégé relationships.
  • Prepare reports regarding mentoring activities, retention, and program effectiveness.
  • Participate in statewide meetings, committees, and special projects.
  • Promote professional development and continuous learning throughout TTG.
  • Recruit, train, and support mentors across multiple programs and departments.
  • In collaboration with the Permanency team, match mentors and mentees based on position, experience, program needs, and organizational goals.
  • Develop mentoring tools, guides, training materials, and best practice resources.
  • Conduct mentor orientation and ongoing development sessions.
  • Monitor mentoring relationships and provide coaching and consultation to mentors and mentees.
  • Partner with supervisors to support employee onboarding, engagement, and successful transition into assigned positions.
  • Track mentoring milestones, participation, and completion of program requirements.
  • Collect and analyze program data to measure effectiveness, employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and recommendations for leadership regarding mentoring outcomes and workforce development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Professional Development Division to integrate mentoring with onboarding, leadership development, and professional development programs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve onboarding, employee experience, and workforce readiness through continuous process improvement.
  • Support leadership development initiatives, succession planning efforts, and career pathway programs.
  • Assist with facilitation of orientation, workshops, and employee development activities.
  • Participate on cross-functional committees and strategic projects that support organizational priorities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information and comply with all organizational policies and applicable laws
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, Psychology, Public Administration, or a related field
  • Experience in Child Protective Services or child welfare.
  • Three (3) years of experience in employee development, training, organizational development, coaching, mentoring, human resources, or program management
  • Experience facilitating training or group learning sessions
  • Experience providing coaching, mentoring, supervision, or staff development
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a CPS Mentor or similar coaching credential a plus
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred

  • Knowledge of Child Protective Services policies, procedures, and practice.
