The Mentor In Training (MIT) is the entry-level position in the Camp Hope peer-mentoring career pathway and may be used as an eligible position under the organization’s Resident-to-Employment Program. The MIT develops the knowledge, skills, documentation practices, professional boundaries, crisis-response competencies, and recovery-focused behaviors required to progress toward a Mentor I role. Under close supervision, the MIT provides structured peer encouragement, role modeling, resident accountability, and recovery-focused support within a non-clinical scope.

High school diploma or GED required. Must meet the eligibility requirements applicable to the Resident-to-Employment Program when hired through that pathway, or otherwise meet the organization’s entry-level peer-support hiring requirements. Valid driver’s license required when driving is an assigned function. Ability to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required competencies: ability to learn and follow Camp Hope program procedures; effective verbal and written communication; basic computer skills; ability to remain composed and follow escalation procedures during stressful situations; ability to document assigned interactions accurately; and commitment to confidentiality, professional boundaries, ethical conduct, and required training.
Camp Hope graduate or comparable lived experience relevant to Veteran peer support; Combat Veteran status or direct experience supporting Combat Veterans; peer-support, recovery-coach, MHPS, or related training or credential.
Work is performed primarily on the Camp Hope residential campus in offices, meeting spaces, residential areas, vehicles, outdoor areas, and community settings as assigned. Duties regularly require walking, standing, sitting, communicating with residents and staff, and responding to changing program needs. The position may involve exposure to emotionally distressed individuals, conflict situations, outdoor weather conditions, and routine environmental hazards. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
Comply with applicable laws, grant and donor restrictions, licensing or credentialing requirements, organizational policies, privacy and confidentiality standards, information-security controls, safety requirements, and the Code of Conduct.
