Job summary

Pacific Clinics in Pasadena, CA seeks a Mentor Coach Coordinator to lead Head Start/Early Head Start program initiatives. Qualifications

  • 3 ECE Units in Mentor Teacher preferred.
  • Familiar with CLASS, DRDP, ECERS/ITERS evaluation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes positive outcomes for children by improving the quality of teacher instruction and learning environments.
  • Coaches and mentors teaching staff regarding developmentally appropriate best practices for infants/toddlers and preschoolers.
  • Assists with assessments on growth and development of children and teacher/child interactions using DRDP, CLASS, ITERS/ECERS tools.
  • Conducts CLASS observations and follow-up conferences with teaching staff using mentoring strategies.
  • Plans goals to improve teaching practices with focus on interactions with children.
  • Provides supportive feedback and models CLASS observations.

Job Summary

The Mentor Coach Coordinator under the direction of the Early Childhood Education Manager will coordinate the goals and objectives of the Head Start/ Early Head Start Program as defined by the Head Start Performance Standards. The position responsibilities include planning and implementing assessments of teachers and children, assessment of the learning environments, and providing professional development activities for teachers/ home educators. Conduct staff activities using reflective supervision, mentoring, and coaching strategies. Support positive teacher/ child interactions to ensure high quality educational services.

This includes coordinating program and staff observations, and the collection, aggregation and analysis of data related to child outcomes and School Readiness Goals per the Head Start Performance Standards.

  • Assists with assessments on the growth and development of children; teacher/child interactions; developmentally appropriate environments; and the overall quality of the program using the DRDP (Desired Results Developmental Profile), CLASS (Classroom
  • Assessment Scoring System) , and ITERS (Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale)/ECERS (Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale) tools.
  • Conducts CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System) observations and follow up conferences with teaching staff using mentoring strategies such as;
  • Encourages teachers to reflect on their teaching experiences.
  • Plans goals and objectives to improve teaching practices with special attention to interactions with children.
  • Provides feedback in a supportive, instructive and non-judgmental manner.
  • Models CLASS observations.
  • Enhances the ability of staff to observe children’s activities and experiences as part of the ongoing assessment process; and to use this information to individualize the curriculum.
  • Assists in the planning and implementing School Readiness Goals and preparation of Child Outcomes Reports.
  • Demonstrates appropriate strategies for engaging children in social interactions designed to improve their language skills and cognitive abilities.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Early Childhood Education Manager.
  • Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.
  • Models Pacific clinics’ approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondence.
  • Communicates effectively in a culturally competent and diverse consumer population and promotes favorable interaction with managers, co-workers and others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Initiate and maintain professional interactions and communication with Clinic’s employees and/or others.

  • Must have BA/BS Degree in Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years directly related experience in Early Child Development teaching of infant-toddler/preschool children with thorough working knowledge of early childhood education practices and principles, and/or administration and supervision.
  • 3 ECE Units in Mentor Teacher preferred.
  • Become certified and maintain valid certification as CLASS Observer, T/I and/or Pre-K.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Familiar with current research and understand how it can be translated into classroom instruction.
  • Experience planning and implementing ECE trainings.
  • Knowledge of criteria for licensed child care in California and regulations essential to the health and welfare of children.
  • Knowledge of competencies in the comprehension of and experience using Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS)/ Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS), Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), and Desired Results Development Profile (DRDP).
  • Criminal Record (e.g. Live Scan Fingerprinting), Child Abuse Index, Sexual Offender Registry, Tuberculosis (TB) test clearances required.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record under the Clinics' liability policy.
