Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification needed.

Salary Range: $20.97 - $26.50, Hourly

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Mental Health Workers provide care to individuals with mental or emotional conditions or disabilities under the direction of nurses and physicians.Mental Health Workersclosely monitor patients' physical and emotional well-being and report to medical staff.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Basic Life Support(BLS) through the American Heart Association

Preferred:

  • Previousexperienceworkingwithpsychiatricand/orsubstanceabusepatients
  • Previousexperienceinpsychologyorsociology

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 3-11pm
  • Also rotate every other weekend
  • Full-time (FT)

Essential Functions:

  • Monitorsvital signs such as heart rate and blood pressure
  • PerformsEKGs
  • Draws labs and collect specimens from patients
  • Activities of daily living such as: eating, dressing, and bathing
  • Provides therapeutic groups and recreational activities to patients
  • Assists in non-violent crisis intervention
  • Attendsandparticipatesinunit meetingsbyofferingsuggestions,ideas, andcommentsconcerningunitand teamefforts
  • Maintainsacleanandcomfortable environmentforthepatientaccordingto establishedpolicyandprocedure
  • Participatesinroomand/orbody searchesofpatientsaccordingtopolicy andprocedureasassignedbythe professionalnurse
  • Assistsinmaintainingunitpolicies andprocedures,procuresandmaintains parlevelsofsuppliesandlinensstock. Cleansdischargeunitswhen housekeepingisunavailable
  • Recordspertinentdataaccordingto standards
  • Documentspertinentpatient informationdailyandas neededinthemedicalrecord
  • Immediatelyreportspatientchanges inconditiontothenurseincharge
  • Preceptsnewemployeesand students,asrequested
  • Assistsinorientingnewstaff members
  • Participatesinthe admission/transferprocessbyorienting patientstotheHospitalandnursingunit, andbycarryingoutthe admission/transferprocessas delineatedintheunitproceduremanual
  • Contributestotheformationofand carryingoutoftreatmentplans elaboratedbythestaffofthepsychiatric team
  • Providesstandardnursingcareas delegatedbytheregisterednurse, physicalcare,escortingpatients, participatinginpatient-relatedactivities maintainingtherapeuticcommunication withpatients,collection of specimens, etc.
  • Participatesinpatient/staff meetings, and groupandcommunity meetingsasrequired
  • Contributestotheupdatingof patientcareplans
  • Plansandparticipatesin recreationalactivitiesforthepatient
  • Supervisespatientinteractionwith familymembers,especiallyduring visitation, andprovidessupportive intervention,asrequired
  • Perform venipuncture and draw blood specimens. Collect specimens (blood, urine, sputum, stool) and ensure that appropriate labeling associated with each specimen is correct and complete
  • Recognizesabnormalvitalsignsdata andverballyreportssamedirectlytothe RNcaringforthepatients
