Job Summary
Provides support to the nursing staff and patient care through the direction and guidance of licensed staff and leaders. Responsible for upholding Community Cares standards and ensuring patient safety. The Mental Health Technician functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to assess the functional abilities, impairments, and needs of each patient and address these individually.
Essential Functions
- Communicates effectively with peers, staff, physicians, leaders, and administration.
- Adapts to change positively and professionally.
- Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care using the appropriate chain of command.
- Supports group decisions and cooperates well with peers.
- Communicates appropriately with lead staff, supervisors, or directors in a timely manner.
- Maintains a clear, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Documents all aspects of routine charting clearly, consistently, and legibly.
- Uses skilled communication demonstrating congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for the same.
- Demonstrates population-appropriate competencies for relevant patient populations.
- Ensures supplies and equipment for patient care are available and organized efficiently.
- Uses personal protective equipment appropriately.
- Models professional behavior effectively.
- Responds promptly to patient and family requests.
- Monitors and records patient information, test results, and stats accurately.
- Provides care including activities of daily living, non-medication pain management, and other interventions.
- Follows patient care policies, practices, and protocols correctly.
- Assists with personal hygiene and elimination needs.
- Provides patients with clean linen and towels at the start of shifts and changes as needed.
- Responds promptly to call systems and intervenes appropriately.
- Cleans equipment as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Less than 2 years of experience as a patient care assistant in a mental health hospital setting preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- BCLS - Basic Life Support required.
- SAMA required.
- Patient Care Technician preferred.
