Job description

General Summary

Reporting directly to the Behavioral Health Services Residential Supervisor, the Mental Health Worker is responsible for carrying out the assigned programming to the residents. Responsibilities are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age‑specific needs of the residents served. This role requires no direct supervision. The position does not report to any other position.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. College courses in the humanities or social sciences preferred.

Work Experience

Two (2) years experience working in the behavioral health system preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain apartment life in a harmonious and “normal” environment free of tension and stress so that all residents can live together comfortably.
• Teach residents appropriate Activity of Daily Living (ADL) skills.
• Implement specified individual service plans as developed by the residential rehabilitation team.
• Provide individual support and direction for residents as needed.
• Assist residents in community orientation and integration.
• Teach and assist residents with tasks such as changing linen, making beds, caring for clothing and personal property, maintaining oral hygiene, weighing residents, and taking showers or baths.
• Provide physical assistance to residents with ADL skill development.
• Keep accurate records for each resident.
• Monitor all medications as prescribed by physicians.
• Assist supervisory staff in program implementation as assigned.
• Attend monthly staff meetings.
• Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to overall program development through constructive suggestions.
• Participate in ongoing in‑service training programs.
• Assist in the general maintenance of all program property, including vehicles, and routine household/residence maintenance duties. Report maintenance issues, pest control issues, and vehicle concerns to the supervisor in a timely manner.
• Assist in orienting new personnel through instruction, example, and guidance.

Special Employment Requirements

• Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.
• CPR certification and First Aid certification must be obtained and maintained.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with staff, management, residents, and external agency personnel.
• Valid PA driver's license required for driving program vehicles.
• Must successfully complete Allied's Driver Testing Program, as stated by policy #2.43.
• Must be able to work flexible scheduled work times to accommodate the needs of the residents of the program.
• Must be willing to rotate throughout all residential work sites.
• Must possess the ability to make mature and good judgments in matters related to resident safety.
• Must adhere to established company and program policies and procedures related to safety and infection control.
