Job summary

Allied Services in Lackawanna County, PA is seeking a Mental Health Worker to support residents in a residential program. You will carry out assigned programming, teach ADL skills, and monitor medications under supervision.

Job description

General Summary

Reporting directly to the Behavioral Health Services Residential Supervisor, the Mental Health Worker is responsible for carrying out assigned programming for residents while maintaining apartment life in a harmonious, stress‑free environment.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a harmonious apartment environment for residents.
  • Teach residents appropriate Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills.
  • Implement specified individual service plans developed by the residential rehabilitation team.
  • Provide individual support and direction for residents as needed.
  • Assist residents with community orientation and integration.
  • Teach and assist with linen changes, bed making, grooming, showering, dressing, and other ADL tasks.
  • Provide physical assistance to residents with ADL skill development.
  • Keep accurate records for each resident.
  • Monitor all medication as prescribed by physicians.
  • Assist supervisory staff in program implementation as assigned.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute to program development through constructive suggestions.
  • Participate in ongoing in‑service training programs.
  • Assist in general maintenance of all program property, including vehicles, and routine household and residence maintenance duties. Report maintenance issues promptly to supervisor.
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel through instruction and guidance.
Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. College courses in the Humanities or Social Sciences preferred.

Two (2) years of experience working in the behavioral health system preferred.

Special Employment Requirements
  • Clearance by PA State Police criminal history check.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required and must be maintained.
  • Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with staff, management, residents and external agencies.
  • Valid PA driver's license required for driving program vehicles.
  • Must complete Allied's Driver Testing Program as stated by policy #2.43.
  • Must work flexible scheduled hours to accommodate resident needs.
  • Must be willing to rotate through all residential work sites.
  • Must have the ability to make mature and sound judgments related to resident safety.
  • Must adhere to company and program policies related to safety and infection control.
