Position Summary

School Based Mental Health Therapists provide mental health services to children and teens within the school-based health center setting, in accordance with the Mental Health Scope of Services. They focus on a comprehensive spectrum of care, from promoting healthy development and prevention to long-term intervention and support for students who cannot access adequate mental health care elsewhere. Emphasis is on asset and strengths-building, symptom reduction, increasing, stabilizing, and maintaining functioning, utilizing individual, family, and group modalities. Services are delivered using various therapeutic techniques, including evidence-based practices.

Compensation
  • Target salary range: $85,633.60 to $102,814.40 annually
  • Final offers depend on experience, skills, location, and other factors
  • Note: During summer, this position is on standby for approximately 8-10 weeks without pay; duration may vary yearly.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, strengths-based services to clients
  • Assist students, families, and school staff in overcoming psychosocial and emotional health barriers
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy, case management, classroom presentations, and psycho-educational services as needed
  • Participate in school-wide interventions
  • Assess mental health needs and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and external providers
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective and respectful collaboration with diverse student populations
  • Understanding of child and adolescent development, family systems, and group dynamics
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and local resources
  • Ability to identify risk factors and implement evidence-based therapeutic methods
  • Proficiency in English communication skills
Educational and Licensing Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field, or PhD in Psychology
  • Active, unrestricted mental health license in Washington (LICSW, LMFT, LMHC, or Psychologist)
