SUMMARY

In collaboration with patient/family, social workers, physicians and interdisciplinary team, the Mental Health Therapist II (MHT II) provides direct psychological, social and practical care including psychological assessments, problem identification, goal setting, behavioral intervention and implementation of care plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Completes diagnostic intake in accordance with joint commission requirements.
  • Completes full psychosocial assessment and plan of care for patients and families who require intervention.
  • Provides direct psychotherapy and psychosocial care for a full case load of patients in assigned area
  • Works in a collaborative practice model, facilitating care coordination with the multidisciplinary treatment team for care progression to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Adheres to departmental and regulatory documentation standards and formulates clear descriptions of the problems, goals and interventions. Adheres to timely completion of medical record documentation.
  • Maintains a current and productive network of referral resources. Seeks out local, regional and national community resources to meet patient need.
  • Monitors effectiveness of medication and observes for and reports side-effects of medication. Notifies and consults with physician if medication changes are indicated.
  • Assists with resource referral, capacity determination, legal guardianships, adoptions, psychiatric referral, and assessment of abuse/neglect/IPV, end of life and charity care.
  • Identifies need for and facilitates family meetings.
  • Complies with Joint Commission requirement to utilize Feedback Informed Care (FIT) with patients
  • Leads or participates in interdisciplinary rounds if applicable for assignment area and articulates social work role to the team members.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities; may serve on committees within the medical center and community.
  • Provides on-call coverage as needed.
  • May make home visits as required by assignment.
  • Provides consultation and direction to staff (students, support staff). Serves as a mentor to other therapists, particularly those at the entry level
  • May provide LGPC supervision per COMAR regulations if approved as a clinical supervisor by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors.
  • May engage in academic work including research, grants, publications and education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Masters’ degree in Applied Psychology or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant community resources commensurate with illness, symptoms, mental status and impairments in functioning.
  • Knowledge of the medical and psychosocial sequelae of course of illness and impact on social functioning (may be specific to patient population).
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision and practice in a mental health/health care setting.
  • Analytical ability to assess patient needs at a micro and macro level, develop associated treatment modalities at a more complex level and provide effective counseling.
  • Integrate multiple information sources and use behavioral health theoretical frameworks to develop a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and treatment plan responsive to patient/family needs and concerns.
  • Initiates corrective action; understands and uses principles of conflict resolution within the clinical aspects of the problem.
  • Prioritize work in a timely and effective manner.
  • Proficiency with an electronic patient record, email, general office and communications equipment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary to communicate/exchange and interact effectively and professionally with hospital staff, agency health care professionals, patients and families.

Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:

  • Valid LCPC required, LGPC, LMSW or LCSW-C will also be considered

Salary Range: Minimum 33.61 per hour - Maximum 55.51 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
