At Oceans Behavioral Hospital, we understand the importance of turning to someone you can trust with your behavioral health needs. We are passionate about helping individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, behavioral changes related to Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, medication management, substance abuse, and other mental health issues.

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports the nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic milieu by performing routine tasks and patient care activities within the scope of their training and experience. The MHT ensures a safe and professional standard of patient care in accordance with regulations, Oceans' policies, and performance standards.

Essential Functions:
  • Follow professional standards, policies, procedures, and regulations including Joint Commission standards.
  • Assist in the control of patients exhibiting unacceptable behavior using de-escalation and therapeutic interventions.
  • Inventory patient belongings and secure contraband; perform safety checks.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and attend required training.
  • Perform patient care activities under supervision, including vital signs, weights, ADLs, documentation, and nutritional monitoring.
  • Assist patients with daily activities and mobility needs, respecting their age, cultural, and disability-specific needs.
  • Document observations and patient data accurately and timely.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding patient care and ongoing activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent, CNA certification, or at least 6 months of direct patient care experience. Good communication skills, physical and mental health, CPR certification, and completion of a behavioral de-escalation program are required. Ability to work in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment with potential exposure to odors and unpredictable patient behavior.
