At Oceans Behavioral Hospital, we understand the importance of trusting someone with your behavioral health needs. We are passionate about helping individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, behavioral changes related to Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, medication management or substance abuse, and other mental health issues.

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports nursing staff by performing routine tasks and patient care activities within their training and experience. The MHT maintains a safe, professional standard for patient care in accordance with regulations, Oceans' policies, and performance standards.

Essential Functions:
  1. Adhere to professional standards, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  2. Apply supportive behavior and employ de-escalation and therapeutic interventions.
  3. Inventory patient belongings and complete safety checks.
  4. Follow infection control policies and attend required training.
  5. Assist with patient care activities under supervision, including vital signs, documentation, and nutritional monitoring.
  6. Help patients with daily activities and mobility, respecting individual needs.
  7. Document observations and patient data accurately and timely.
  8. Communicate effectively with nursing staff regarding patient care.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, CNA certification, or at least 6 months of patient care experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Good physical and mental health, with a respectful and empathetic attitude.
  • Ability to work under supervision, complete CPR, and behavioral de-escalation training.
  • Work environment involves high-paced, sometimes stressful situations, with exposure to odors, sights, and unpredictable behaviors.
