Job summary

Qualifications

• High School degree or equivalent required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Degree in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.
• CPR certification prior to independent patient assignment.
• Management Aggressive Behavior Training (HWC) before unit orientation and prior to restraining procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu and assist with activities of daily living.
• Conduct 15‑minute rounds on patients per policy.
• Assist patients who are prone to fall when walking or sitting.
• Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients when required.
• Communicate patient progress to the treatment team and participate in shift reports.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Mental Health Technician who will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and assistance with activities of daily living. The Mental Health Technician must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female, adolescents and adults as well as dually diagnosed adults.

Essential Job Functions

• Conduct 15‑minute rounds on patients per policy.
• Assist patients who are prone to fall when walking or sitting.
• Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients when required.
• Support facility service excellence standards.
• Maintain desirable pattern of attendance, punctuality, and productivity.
• Provide assistance in implementing patients’ treatment plans by:
  • monitoring patients’ progress;
  • communicating information regarding patients’ behavior to other members of the treatment team;
  • maintaining communication with patient, family members and referral sources in patient’s interest;
  • facilitating or co‑facilitating didactic groups, community meetings, or drug or alcohol education groups;
  • encouraging and facilitating patients’ participation in therapeutic activities;
  • supervising patients to ensure their safety and involvement in treatment;
  • providing input during shift reports.

Qualifications

Requirements: High School Degree or equivalent is required. Certified Nursing Assistant preferred. Degree in social work, recreational therapy or appropriate therapeutic discipline preferred.

Experience: Zero‑one (0‑1) year of experience required. Two (2) years of related experience preferred. Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness preferred.

Additional Requirements: Successful completion of Management Aggressive Behavior Training (HWC) before unit orientation and prior to assisting with restraining procedures. Successful certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association for CPR prior to taking an independent patient assignment.

Work Hours: PRN Employees are required to work a minimum of 36 hours per month.
