The Mental Health Technician (MHT), supervised by the Registered Nurse, observes and records patient information, assists with admissions and discharges, maintains patient observation, leads patient education and activity groups, and supports nursing staff with vital signs and ADL assistance. Due to high patient interaction, the MHT is often the first responder to various patient situations, including codes and behavioral outbursts. The role involves adjusting therapeutic approaches based on patient acuity, age, gender, and cultural considerations. The MHT does not assume independent patient care responsibility. All duties are performed according to Voyages Behavioral Health policies and procedures.

Education and Training: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Certification as a CNA is preferred where required by state. Current BLS certification is mandatory. Crisis management certification per hospital standards is required.

Experience: None required; however, 2-3 years of experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing setting is preferred.
