Job summary

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the MHS provides direct patient care and participates in the therapeutic milieu.

Essential Functions
  1. Assists the RN in providing direct patient care.
  2. Accurate and timely documentation of AFS, progress notes, and observation sheets.
  3. Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients, maintaining professional boundaries.
  4. Participates in patient rounds or teams.
  5. Completes patient care assignments.
  6. Identifies patient behaviors contributing to crises; utilizes verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques.
  7. Intervenes in managing complex patient situations, promoting the least restrictive alternatives.
  8. Communicates changes in patient status to RN.
  9. Follows Standards of Care and protocols for assigned patients.
  10. Remains alert and awake during shifts.
  11. Performs Point of Care testing (POC).
  12. Works effectively within the therapeutic milieu.
  13. Participates in planning and implementing patient groups.
  14. Provides and supervises recreation and off-hall activities based on patient needs.
  15. Provides direction, support, and supervision to patients as needed.
  16. Follows established nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
  17. Conducts active milieu assessments, focusing on safety.
  18. Participates in maintaining a safe unit environment.
  19. Reports house cleaning and equipment issues to the appropriate personnel.
  20. Participates in inventory management and ensures a clean environment.
  21. Assists patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, nutrition, and safety during tests and procedures.
  22. Maintains a commitment to professional growth, completing mandatory training, seeking feedback, and participating in debriefings.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Cannot accept experience in lieu of a degree.

Licenses and Credentials: Required.

Experience: One year of clinical experience, preferably in a psychiatric setting; 1-2 years preferred. Previous direct patient care experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent communication skills; must complete and pass Epic training within 30 days, with a minimum score of 80%.
