Job summary

Baptist Health Prattville Hospital is seeking a Mental Health Technician to provide patient care under the direction of the Charge Nurse or Registered Nurse. The incumbent will assist patients with activities of daily living, aid in admission and discharge procedures, and lead or co-facilitate patient groups, while orienting new patients to the unit environment.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent, with CNA or PCT certification preferred and BLS required.

  • Hospice/clinical terminology knowledge is helpful.

Responsibilities

The Technician shall be responsible to assist patients with activities of daily living, and to assist with admission and discharge procedures. This individual shall lead or serve as co-facilitator for patient groups, as well as to orient new patients to the unit environment. The Technician shall complete safety/location checks of all patients, and other care functions as assigned by the Charge Nurse. This position may have additional duties assigned that are in scope of the role. **Education / Experience**: High School graduate or equivalent required. Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician Certification or equivalent experience.**License / Certification**: CNA or PCT certification preferred, BLS required, additional certifications (Secure, etc) may be required depending upon area assigned.**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**: • Requires stable physical and mental health • Communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, • Frequently cope with stressful/rapidly changing situations. • Knowledge of body mechanics and basic safety, principles of physical care and comfort. • Medical terminology training preferred. • Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns.**Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:**Position requires sitting for 20% of the workday and mobility 80% of the workday. There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action. Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds. There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person. Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range. Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels. Much exposure to computer work. Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock. Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals.
