Under supervision of a Registered Nurse and according to established procedures, provides direct patient care to patients with behavioral health disorders. Ensures the safety and well-being of these patients by maintaining a safe milieu. Participates in treatment planning and implementation. Documents according to department/organization procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with hygiene and personal needs, delivering and removing meal trays, assisting patients with nutritional intake, providing assistance with activities of daily living, carrying out plan of care considering patient’s age-specific needs, complying with hospital infection control standards, assisting with specimen collection, vitals, EKG (if trained), providing patient/family orientation, transporting/escorting patients, completing admission documentation, performing unit specialist duties, ensuring patient safety by providing one-to-one supervision, maintaining a therapeutic milieu, communicating regularly with RN on patient status, reporting changes in patient status or safety, and possibly transporting patients in company-owned vehicles. Education required is a High School Diploma or GED, with ability to demonstrate de-escalation and behavior management techniques. A valid driver’s license is required if performing off-site duties. Preferred experience includes college-level psychology courses, at least one year in hospital or customer service, and six months in psychiatric settings. Required certifications include current CPR and CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
