Job summary

The MendCenter in Houston, TX is seeking a part-time Mental Health Technician to provide direct support to individuals living with serious mental illness. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor behavior, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment on-site.

Responsibilities include de-escalation, group activity support, transporting clients as needed, and collaborating with clinical staff. A HS diploma is required; experience in mental health settings is beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Psychology and Mental Health concepts relevant to serious mental illness.
  • Experience or training in Patient Care and Direct Patient Care in behavioral or clinical settings.
  • Understanding of Behavioral Health principles and comfort working with diverse client populations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; postsecondary coursework in psychology, social work, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in mental health, residential, hospital, or community-based care settings is beneficial.
  • Ability to work shift schedules, stand and walk for extended periods, and assist clients with mobility as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with group facilitation activities and client engagement.
  • Transport or accompany clients to activities as needed.
  • Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and other team members to support treatment plans.
  • Educate clients on wellness strategies and coping skills.
  • Participate in team meetings to review and improve quality of care.

Role Description

The Mental Health Technician is a part-time, on-site position based in Houston, TX. This role involves providing direct support to individuals experiencing serious mental illness, including assisting with daily living activities, monitoring behavior, and helping maintain a safe and therapeutic environment. The technician will observe and document client status, support treatment plans, and communicate changes in behavior or mood to clinical staff. Daily responsibilities include de-escalation support, group facilitation assistance, transporting or accompanying clients to activities, and collaborating with nurses, therapists, and other team members. The technician will also help educate clients on wellness strategies, reinforce coping skills, and participate in team meetings to improve quality of care.

Shift/Hours
  • Evening Shift: Thursdays & Fridays: 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm
  • Overnight Shift: Saturdays & Sundays: 9:00 pm - 7: 30 am
