Job summary

Havenwyck Hospital is seeking a Mental Health Technician for a temporary night shift at Havenwyck Hospital (a UHS facility) in Auburn Hills, MI. The role supports admitted patients under RN supervision, assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers, and helps maintain a therapeutic environment.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, at least three years of MHT/PCS experience in a behavioral health setting, and the ability to de-escalate potential aggression.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years of current experience as a MHT/PCS in a behavioral health hospital.
  • Experience in dealing with the emotionally disturbed preferred.
  • Employees must be in good standing to be considered for internal transfers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Monitor patients for verbal and non-verbal cues of aggression and de-escalate as needed.
  • Provide care prioritizing safety, rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment.
  • Report patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
  • Work 3–12 hour shifts per week, 7:00PM–7:30AM, and every other weekend including holidays.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mental Health Technician performs routine patient care duties under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. This includes: assisting with patient admissions, discharges and transfers; monitoring patients to identify verbal and non-verbal cues for potential aggressive behaviors and using the necessary intervention to de-escalate the patient appropriately. Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illnesses, delusions and hallucinations. Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action, when indicated, to prevent patient harm. Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse. Will also assist patients with activities of daily living and encourage independent behavior with appropriate interventions on a daily basis while providing care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a therapeutic environment

HOURS/SCHEDULE: This is a TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT (Option 1) not to exceed 6 months. Must work 3 – 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00PM-7:30AM and every other weekend to include holidays.
NEW RATES: $23.00
Duties and responsibilities, to include; but are not limited to:
  • Follows instructions given by all nursing leadership and as outlined in Hospital policies and
    procedures
  • Reports patient medical problems to the Registered Nurse.
  • Reports alterations in sensory perceptual images, recognizing the differences between illnesses,
    delusions and hallucinations. Monitors safety issues regarding these patients and takes action,
    when indicated, to prevent patient harm. Communicates these issues to the Registered Nurse.
  • Provides care to patients in a manner that considers safety, patients’ rights, comfort and a
    therapeutic environment
  • Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner and completes
    the appropriate documentation.
