Job Description
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Mental Health Specialist II (MHS2) work in our Acute Behavioral Services (ABS) programs. These are highly specialized programs serving individuals with intensive, interfering behavioral and mental health needs. Characteristics of these individuals include prior placements in highly restricted facilities, frequent crisis situations, high levels of challenging behaviors, multiple hospitalizations or institutional stays, law enforcement involvement, and multiple failed placements. The programs are designed with significant safety modifications, and consistency and routine are key to success. Due to the complex behaviors, MHS2s receive training in manual restraints and may experience mental, emotional, and physical manipulation from the persons supported. Staff may be exposed to severe verbal aggression, including disparaging remarks, racial slurs, and swearing. The programs utilize a person-centered approach focused on supporting individuals to reach their goals while ensuring safety for all.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The MHS II provides direct care and support tailored to each person's needs. Responsibilities include managing interfering behaviors, maintaining a safe and clean environment, assisting and training in daily living skills, transportation, and promoting a person-centered approach. Previous experience as a direct support professional or behavior technician is relevant.
