Location: MMC Southern Campus, 600 River Road, Lakewood, NJ 08701

Job Overview:

The Mental Health Screener provides care in the acute care setting within the scope of practice defined by the Screening Law and other regulatory standards. They ensure safety by maintaining awareness of their knowledge and experience levels, and they are responsible for advancing their knowledge through communication with resource persons and programs. The individualizes the care plan to meet the specific needs of each patient and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to deliver optimal patient service. They supervise and delegate tasks to support personnel and prioritize effectively.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BA/BS degree in a related field, with 3 years of experience in a psychiatric setting, including 1 in a crisis setting.
  • Or enrolled in a Master’s program with 2 years of psychiatric experience, including 1 in a crisis setting.
  • Valid NJ driver’s license.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • Eligibility to obtain a Temporary Screening Certification Number upon hire and a permanent number within 1 year.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid NJ Driver's License
  • BLS Certification
  • Eligibility to obtain permanent Screening Certification within 1 year of hire.

Scheduling:

  • 24 hours/week
  • Part-Time

Essential Functions:

  • Answer phones professionally and promptly, including hotline and business lines.
  • Communicate clinical information effectively with psychiatrists and team members.
  • Conduct thorough ongoing assessments per departmental guidelines.
  • Provide timely patient care and evaluate intervention effects.
  • Document thoroughly, including off-site screening requests and discharge education.
  • Provide appropriate hotline information, referrals, and interventions.
  • Determine the most suitable services/dispositions based on clinical needs, considering least restrictive options.
  • Accurately describe patients' mental illnesses according to Screening Law and guidelines.
