Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN) Day Shift (Full Time)

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients, supervising care treatment and services of patient care provided by LPNs, CNAs, and other staff on assigned unit and shift. Developing, implementing, and evaluating individual care plans, assessing and re-assessing patients, and communicating with the interdisciplinary team are essential duties. Reporting patient concerns and changes in condition promptly is critical.

Essential Functions
  • Assess physical and behavioral health needs, develop and implement care plans, maintain records, and educate patients and families.
  • Continuously assess patient status and document findings.
  • Create specific nursing treatment plans upon admission.
  • Accurately take and transcribe physician’s orders, ensuring clarity and compliance.
  • Administer medications safely, monitor lab results, and adjust medications under supervision.
  • Notify physicians of significant changes in patient status.
  • Supervise medication administration, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Manage medication accountability, including controlled substances.
  • Complete admission and discharge processes efficiently.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team and participate in unit activities.
  • Educate patients and families about medication use, side effects, and patient rights.
  • Monitor staffing needs and patient acuity, making coverage arrangements as needed.
  • Ensure thorough documentation and effective communication during shift changes.
  • Provide emergency coverage when necessary.
Education/Experience/Skills
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
  • One or more years of clinical nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience in behavioral health or psychiatric settings is advantageous.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Valid RN license from the state or a compact state.
  • Psychiatric Nursing certification preferred.
  • CPR, de-escalation, and restraint certifications required (training provided).
