Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks a Mental Health Professional I - Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) to deliver recovery oriented counseling and related services at the Berkeley Community Mental Health Center in Moncks Corner.

You will provide assessments, therapy, and case coordination under supervision, promoting long‑term wellness for individuals and families.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field that meets licensure eligibility.
  • Evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care (practicum or internship or post-graduate).
  • Position is essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are a PLUS.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services including assessment, treatment planning, crisis management, individual/group/family therapy, and case coordination.
  • Document services per QA requirements including discharge planning and progress notes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with patients and partners to facilitate access to services.

This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Berkeley Community Mental Health Center, 403 Stoney Landing Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461.

As the Mental Health Professional I - MDFT, under general supervision, you will provide recovery oriented counseling and related behavioral healthcare services, and/or case management functions, for people with mental health issues.

Responsibilities Of The Mental Health Professional I - MDFT
  • Provide an array of clinical services and meet Patient Care Hour expectations as indicated on the performance review (EPMS). Services may include, but are not limited to, assessment treatment planning; crisis management; individual, group, and/or family therapy, and case coordination. Deliver services in a patient-centered, recovery oriented manner.
  • Document services collaboratively and in accordance with Quality Assurance (QA) requirements. QA requirements may include, but are not limited to; appropriate discharge planning, timely and thorough completion of DLA-20s, Plans of Care, Progress Summaries, and session notes.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with patients, internal staff, and external community partners in order to facilitate linkages to services and provide quality treatment. Participate in meetings, supervision, and interagency staffing as needed.
  • Comply with Corporate Compliance Policy; all State and Federal laws; all Agency and Center policies and procedures. Help ensure area is CARF accredited.
  • Pursue professional development through collegial consultation, supervision, continuing education, training, and licensure/certification as applicable. Maintain all required certifications and licenses.
  • May mentor/supervise practicum students and interns in order to provide educational and experiential opportunities for the future work force.

This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.

Minimum And Additional Requirements
  • A master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or related field that meets the requirements for licensure eligibility as a LPC, LISC-CP, or LMFT
Additional Requirements
  • In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional at the SC Office of Mental Health, applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program, or post-graduate clinical experience. Please be sure to provide specific clinical activities on your application and/or resume.
  • Position is considered essential and may be called back during crisis/disasters/emergencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a PLUS.
Post Hire, Employees Must Have
  • Knowledge of counseling practices, including knowledge of psychopathology, diagnosing, and treatment of behavioral health disorders including mental illness.
  • The ability to effectively communicate and establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, other professionals, and community partners.
