Job summary

Virtua Health in New Jersey is seeking a Nurse Educator with MSN and mental health nursing experience to guide classroom and clinical learning experiences for students in both virtual and on-site settings.

The role focuses on teaching strategies, student guidance, and professional development, with a commitment to evidence-based practice, assessment, and inclusive, culturally sensitive education for diverse learners.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years teaching experience preferred, not required; 3+ years’ experience as an RN.
  • Master of Nursing degree required; Master of Nursing Education, EdD, PhD or DNP preferred.
  • RN licensure in the state of New Jersey required, BLS required, (ACLS, NALS, PALS required for specialty courses)

Responsibilities

  • Carries out daily activities within appropriate ethical, regulatory and legal standards and adheres to the Virtua Health’s, “Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct Statement” as well as the other Corporate Compliance and HIPAA policies designated by Virtua Health, federal and state regulations.
  • Facilitates learning and creates an environment in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings that encourages student learning and the achievement of desired cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes.
  • Implements a variety of evidenced based teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs, desired learner outcomes, content, and context.
  • Recognizes multicultural, gender, and experiential influences on teaching and learning.
  • Engages in self-reflection and continued learning to improve teaching practices that facilitate learning.
  • Uses information technologies skillfully to support the teaching-learning process.
  • Practices skilled oral, written, and electronic communication that reflects an awareness of self and others.
  • Creates opportunities for learners to develop their critical thinking and critical reasoning skills.
  • Shows enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates students.
  • Demonstrates respect for learners.
  • Uses personal attributes (e.g. caring, confidence, patience, integrity and flexibility) that facilitate learning.
  • Develops collegial working relationship with faculty colleagues.
  • Develops effective collaborative relationship with clinical agency personnel to promote positive learning environments.
  • Maintains the professional practice knowledge base needed to help learners prepare for contemporary nursing practice.
  • Serves as a role model of professional nursing.
  • Use assessment and evaluation strategies.
  • Utilizes a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in the classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.
  • Uses a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate learning in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.
  • Implements evidence-based assessment and evaluation strategies that are appropriate student learning outcomes.
  • Uses assessment and evaluation data to enhance the teaching-learning process.
  • Provides timely, constructive, and thoughtful feedback to learners.
  • Function as a Change Agent and leader.
  • Models cultural sensitivity.
  • Promotes innovative practices in the educational environment.
  • Develops leadership skills to shape and implement change in the educational environment
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development in the Nurse Educator Role.
  • Commits to on-going development and maintenance of competency in the role of the nurse educator and engages in scholarship.
  • Acknowledges that scholarship is an integral component of the faculty role, and that teaching itself is a scholarly activity.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to life-long learning.
