Job summary

NaphCare, Inc. in Clayton, Alabama, is hiring a Mental Health LPN to join our team providing care to individuals at Ventress Correctional Facility.

You will work with correctional officers and medical staff in a controlled environment, performing assessments, administering meds, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. New grads are encouraged to apply, as we train in correctional healthcare.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Actively state certified as an Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse.
• Be able to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
• Interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including mental health or substance use issues.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow facility policies and code of conduct.
• Pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and collect health history.
• Take vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature and weight.
• Provide wound care and bandaging.
• Administer medications and monitor reactions.
• Maintain medical records in TechCare electronic health record.
• Observe patient and mental health status.
• Provide emergency first aid.
• Educate patients and plan discharge/release.

Job description

NaphCare is hiring a Mental Health LPN to join our team of medical professionals in Clayton, Alabama, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the Ventress Correctional Facility.

As a Correctional Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.

Responsibilities

• Performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history
• Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight
• Providing wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas
• Administering medication, including injections of medications and monitoring reaction to meds
• Maintaining medical records, including entering information into our electronic health record, TechCare
• Observing patient health and mental health status
• Providing emergency first aid
• Providing patient education and discharge/release planning

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Actively state certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
• Be able to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
• Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
• Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
• Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
